"Where no wood is, there the fire goes out: so where there is no talebearer (gossip), the strife ceases."

~ Proverbs 26:20

In this passage of scripture Solomon gives us a natural picture in which we can relate to. In order for a fire to continue to burn, it must have a source of fuel, in this case the source of fuel is wood. If the wood is removed the fire will cease. James 3:6 tells us that the tongue is a fire. The tongue of a talebearer or gossiper can create a great deal of strife, anger, bitterness, hatred and violence. In and of ourselves we cannot tame or control our tongue. But if we yield unto the Lord and allow Him to control our tongue, strife will cease and the fruit of peace will be manifested.
